It's Simple, Just explain why you chose the avatar you did, what it means, where its from, etc.
( Doing this just for fun )
My Avatar is nothing currently, but i do plan on scanning in some drawings and making it a monkey, a hat, or a monkey in a hat Very Happy

Mine is my custom avatar from a game called FaitH I used to play. Basically, you could pay something like $50 to pay for a hand drawn a custom avatar to use, based upon a picture or description you gave the game designer. I did, partly to support the game, partly to stand out, and partly cause all the 1337 players were doing it.

The game has now died, but I stole all the graphics before it did. And now use my custom avatar in any forums that are appropriate for it ;P I figured that I played $50 for it I may as well get some use out of it!
